Ownership & Management of Parish Cemeteries: St. Mary’s Cemetery, Castleblayney St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Oram. While seeking at all times to respect the personal wishes and preferences of the family who have the right of burial in the individual plots, commonly referred to as the family burial plot, the parish community retains the full and out-right ownership of the parish cemeteries and church grounds as vested in St. Macartan’s Diocesan Trust. The management of the cemeteries and all church property is the responsibility of the Muckno Parish Finance & Property Committee. New burial plots are allocated only at the time of death and these are distributed in the order as decided by the committee of management. The payment at the time of burial is a contribution to the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the cemetery and does not denote or confer any right of ownership. If the family chooses to erect a headstone and surround, this work must be confined to the actual plot and must not extend beyond those boundaries. Any other work such as the laying of concrete on the surrounding area of the grave plot is not permitted and the parish retains the right to have all such extended works removed. The erection of all permanent structures (headstones, surrounds etc.) must have permission in writing from the Muckno Parish Finance & Property Committee. Applications (outlining the proposed work) to be made in writing to Muckno Parish Office at St. Mary’s Church, Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan, allowing a period of six weeks for the processing of the application. Work can only commence when written permission is granted. The committee reserves the right to require the payment of a deposit (sum of deposit to be decided at the committee’s discretion); deposit to be returned when work has been completed to the committee’s satisfaction. |
